Insurance Policy
Our local moving company provides clear insurance options so you always know exactly how your items are protected when you book our moving services. This page explains the two levels of coverage, what they pay in practice, how to file a claim if something is damaged, and what to do if you disagree with the outcome.
Standard Liability Coverage (Included)
Every move with our movers automatically comes with basic liability coverage at no extra cost. This is the standard baseline used across the Canadian moving industry: it covers your belongings at $0.60 CAD per pound per item, based on the weight of the item, not its purchase price.
That means a 50 lb television is covered for $30 under standard liability, whatever it cost. The plan is included with every move, but it often falls short of the true value of furniture, appliances and electronics, which is why we offer the option below.
Replacement Value Protection (Optional)
For extra peace of mind, we offer Replacement Value Protection for an additional $150 CAD. This increases coverage to $2.50 per pound per article, or more through a custom insurance policy agreement.
If you’d like even greater protection, we can create a special agreement to guarantee specific high-value items or provide full-value replacement coverage. This flexibility makes sure you get the protection that best fits your moving services. Ask about it when you book, before moving day, so the agreement is in place before anything is loaded.
Example Coverage for Common Furniture
| Furniture Item | Average Weight (lbs) | Standard Liability ($0.60/lb) | Replacement Value ($2.50/lb) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sofa (3-seat) | 150 lbs | $90.00 | $375.00 |
| Dining Table (6-person) | 120 lbs | $72.00 | $300.00 |
| Queen Mattress | 100 lbs | $60.00 | $250.00 |
| Dresser (6-drawer) | 140 lbs | $84.00 | $350.00 |
| Refrigerator | 300 lbs | $180.00 | $750.00 |
| TV (55-inch) | 50 lbs | $30.00 | $125.00 |
| Office Desk | 100 lbs | $60.00 | $250.00 |
Weights are typical averages used to illustrate how each plan is calculated. Your own items are settled on their actual weight.
Theft & Road Accident Coverage
Your belongings are also protected during transportation. In the event of theft or a road accident, our moving company carries:
- $5,000,000 CAD Commercial General Liability (Bodily Injury & Property Damage)
- $1,000,000 CAD All Risk Cargo Insurance
Your items are safeguarded not just in your home, but also on the road! If your condo or office building asks for proof of this coverage before moving day, we provide a certificate of insurance on request.
Which Option Should You Choose?
Standard liability is enough when what you are moving is mostly boxes, basic furniture and items you could replace without much thought. Replacement Value Protection makes sense when the move includes a large sofa or sectional, solid wood furniture, a fridge or a washer and dryer, a piano, or a large television, because those are exactly the items where $0.60 per pound falls furthest below the real cost. For a single high-value piece, such as artwork, a designer piece or a specialty instrument, ask about a custom agreement for that item instead.
Before moving day, a few things are worth doing whichever option you choose:
- Carry cash, jewellery, passports and important documents yourself rather than putting them on the truck.
- Tell us about any item you consider high-value when you book, so it can be listed and covered properly.
- Photograph furniture and electronics before they are wrapped. It takes five minutes and makes any later claim simple to verify.
- If you are packing your own boxes, pack fragile items well and label the box as fragile, since the crew cannot see inside a box you sealed.
How to File a Claim
If something arrives damaged or is missing, here is how a claim works with us:
- Note it at delivery. Check your items as they come off the truck and point out any damage to the crew lead before they leave, so it is recorded on the paperwork you sign. Damage found later can still be claimed, but it is harder to verify.
- Photograph the damage. Take clear photos of the item and, where it applies, the packaging it was in.
- Contact us in writing. Email or call +1-866-558-8564 as soon as you can after delivery with your move date, the address, the item, and the photos. The sooner we hear from you, the faster the claim moves.
- Keep the item. Do not throw away or repair a damaged item until the claim is settled, in case it needs to be inspected.
- Settlement. Under standard liability, the payout is calculated on the weight of the item at $0.60 per pound. Under Replacement Value Protection, it is calculated at $2.50 per pound or under the terms of your custom agreement.
What to have ready: your booking confirmation or invoice, the signed delivery paperwork, photos of the damage, and, for a replacement-value or custom claim, a receipt or a comparable price for the item.
If You Disagree With the Outcome
We would rather sort out a disagreement directly, so the first step is to reply to the settlement in writing and tell us what you think has been missed. We review it again with that in mind. If we still cannot agree, you have options outside the company: Consumer Protection Ontario accepts complaints about moving companies, and disputes over damaged goods up to $35,000 can be taken to Ontario’s Small Claims Court. We would rather it never gets that far, and clear paperwork at booking and at delivery is the best way to make sure it does not.
Insurance Questions
Yes. Standard liability coverage at $0.60 per pound per item is included with every move at no extra cost. Replacement Value Protection is an optional $150 upgrade that raises coverage to $2.50 per pound.
The item is still covered on the same per-pound basis. What is hard to prove is damage inside a box the crew never opened, which is why we suggest photographing fragile items before you seal the box and labelling the box as fragile.
Yes. Tell us about the item when you book and we can set up a custom agreement that covers it at an agreed value rather than by weight. This has to be arranged before moving day.
Report it as soon as you notice it, ideally at delivery so it is recorded on the paperwork you sign. Claims reported later are still reviewed, but the longer the gap, the harder it is to confirm the damage happened during the move.
