Racking disassembly and reassembly
Racking is usually the biggest single job in a warehouse move and the one most likely to hold up
the schedule. Pallet racking, cantilever racking and shelving systems come down in a set order,
beams before uprights, and go back up the same way. Bracing and safety pins are kept with their own
bay rather than pooled, because mixing components between bays is what leads to a rebuild that does
not sit square. Tell us the racking manufacturer and configuration when you book so the crew arrives
with the right tools.
Pallets, stock and inventory
Stock moves as pallet units wherever possible, because breaking a pallet down and rebuilding it
at the other end doubles the handling and the risk. Where stock has to be moved loose, it is boxed
and labelled by SKU group so it can be put away rather than sorted. If you run a live inventory
system, freeze it at a known point before the move and reconcile after, rather than trying to keep
it accurate mid-move.
Heavy and specialist equipment
Forklifts, pallet jackets, conveyor sections, workbenches and packing stations all move as part of
a warehouse relocation. Anything that needs a licensed operator, a rigger, a crane or a
manufacturer-certified technician to decommission is arranged with those specialists rather than
improvised by the moving crew. Tell us early which machines fall into that category, because it
affects the sequence of the whole move.
Phased moves and downtime
Most warehouses cannot close for a week, so the move is usually phased: a section at a time, with
the operation still running out of whichever site holds the stock that day. A phased plan takes
longer overall but keeps orders going out. The alternative is a single shutdown window, which is
faster but only works if your customers can absorb the gap. We plan around whichever one your
business can afford.
