Local moves run on an hourly rate starting at $135 per hour. Long-distance moves are quoted per job instead, based on distance, the volume or weight of the shipment and access at both ends. That is why a cross-province move needs a quote rather than an hourly figure.

Can I store my belongings between pickup and delivery?

Yes. Storage in transit is available if your delivery date is later than your pickup date, which is common with delayed closings. Items stay inventoried and wrapped. See our storage services for how it works.

How long-distance pricing works

A local move runs on an hourly rate starting at $135 per hour. A long-distance move does not,
because the hours stop being the useful measure once the truck is on the highway for two days. Long
distance is quoted per job instead, and these are the things that move the number:

• Distance – the single biggest factor, and the one you cannot change.
• Volume or weight – how much of the truck your shipment occupies. This is why
  decluttering before a cross-country move saves real money rather than a token amount.
• Access at both ends – stairs, elevators, long carries and whether a full-size
  truck can reach the door at each address.
• Storage in transit – if your delivery date is later than your pickup date.
• Packing – full, partial or none.

Because those five things vary so much between jobs, an honest long-distance number needs a
conversation rather than a calculator. We would rather quote your actual move than publish an
average that will be wrong for you.

Closing dates rarely line up perfectly across provinces. If you have to be out of the old place

Preparing for a cross-country move

• Declutter hard. On a long-distance move you pay to transport every box, so anything you would
  not pay to ship is worth donating or selling first.
• Keep documents, medication, valuables and anything irreplaceable with you rather than on the
  truck.
• Photograph high-value items before they are loaded.
• Confirm access at the destination in advance: parking, elevator, and whether a full-size truck
  can reach the building.
• Pack a first-week box, not just a first-night bag, because delivery is a window rather than a
  date.
