Long-distance moving questions
How long does a move from Toronto to Vancouver take?
Transit time depends on the route, the size of the shipment and the delivery window agreed at booking. Cross-country deliveries are scheduled as a date range rather than a single day. Call +1-866-558-8564 with your pickup and delivery cities for a route-specific estimate.
How is a long-distance move priced compared to a local move?
Local moves run on an hourly rate starting at $135 per hour. Long-distance moves are quoted per job instead, based on distance, the volume or weight of the shipment and access at both ends. That is why a cross-province move needs a quote rather than an hourly figure.
Can I store my belongings between pickup and delivery?
Yes. Storage in transit is available if your delivery date is later than your pickup date, which is common with delayed closings. Items stay inventoried and wrapped. See our storage services for how it works.
Which provinces do you move to?
Move It Right runs long-distance moves from Ontario to British Columbia, Alberta and Nova Scotia, with destination pages for Vancouver, Calgary and Halifax. Call for any route not listed.
Is my shipment insured on a long-distance move?
Standard liability coverage is included and additional protection is available. Because a long-distance shipment travels further and is handled more, it is worth reviewing the options before you book. Details are on our insurance policy page.
Routes we run from Ontario
Move It Right runs long-distance moves out of Ontario across the country. These are the routes we
handle most often, each with a destination page covering what to expect at the other end.
- Toronto to Vancouver, British Columbia
- Toronto to Calgary, Alberta
- Toronto to Halifax, Nova Scotia
- Toronto to Montreal and Ottawa
- Toronto to Winnipeg and the prairies
- Within Ontario: Toronto to Hamilton, Barrie, Kitchener-Waterloo, Niagara and beyond
Delivery on a cross-country route is scheduled as a date range rather than a single day, because
the truck is covering thousands of kilometres and weather and road conditions are real variables.
Call +1-866-558-8564 with your pickup and delivery cities and we will
give you a window for your specific route.
How long-distance pricing works
A local move runs on an hourly rate starting at $135 per hour. A long-distance move does not,
because the hours stop being the useful measure once the truck is on the highway for two days. Long
distance is quoted per job instead, and these are the things that move the number:
- Distance – the single biggest factor, and the one you cannot change.
- Volume or weight – how much of the truck your shipment occupies. This is why
decluttering before a cross-country move saves real money rather than a token amount. - Access at both ends – stairs, elevators, long carries and whether a full-size
truck can reach the door at each address. - Storage in transit – if your delivery date is later than your pickup date.
- Packing – full, partial or none.
Because those five things vary so much between jobs, an honest long-distance number needs a
conversation rather than a calculator. We would rather quote your actual move than publish an
average that will be wrong for you.
Storage in transit
Closing dates rarely line up perfectly across provinces. If you have to be out of the old place
before you can get into the new one, storage in transit holds the shipment in between: the crew
loads once, the goods stay inventoried and wrapped, and delivery happens when you have keys. See
storage services for how items are handled.
Insurance on a long-distance move
Insurance matters more on a long haul than a local one, simply because the shipment travels
further and is handled more. Standard liability coverage is included and additional protection is
available. Review the options before you book rather than after, and see our
insurance policy page for what applies. For independent guidance on
your rights when hiring a mover in Canada, the
Canadian
Association of Movers publishes consumer information worth reading before you sign anything.
Preparing for a cross-country move
- Declutter hard. On a long-distance move you pay to transport every box, so anything you would
not pay to ship is worth donating or selling first. - Keep documents, medication, valuables and anything irreplaceable with you rather than on the
truck. - Photograph high-value items before they are loaded.
- Confirm access at the destination in advance: parking, elevator, and whether a full-size truck
can reach the building. - Pack a first-week box, not just a first-night bag, because delivery is a window rather than a
date.

LONG-DISTANCE MOVING QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Frequently Asked Questions
When customers are shopping for a long-distance moving company, they’re usually looking for a few key things: trustworthy licensing and insurance, years of experience with cross-country relocations, clear and transparent pricing, excellent communication, and great customer reviews.
At MOVE IT RIGHT, we check all those boxes and add a friendly, stress-free experience on top. Our moving services stand out because our movers are fully licensed and insured, we offer customized, transparent quotes, keep you informed every step of the way, and have a track record of happy clients moving across provinces. It’s long-distance relocating made easy for you.
Nope! Our quotes are totally transparent at the top of the page or over the phone. No sneaky fees, no surprises. What you see is what you get, so you can relax and focus on the excitement of your upcoming move, not the fine print.

We use durable, high-quality packing materials, expert loading strategies, and careful labeling to make sure everything (from your heirlooms to your everyday items) arrives safe and sound. We wish we could move absolutely everything, but for safety and legal reasons, we can’t transport things like hazardous materials, perishable goods, or anything illegal. During your consultation, we’ll walk you through what’s not allowed and help you find safe alternatives!
Absolutely! We understand that plans can change. You can adjust your move date up to 48 hours before your scheduled move, with no penalty. Flexibility is one of our favourite moving services!
Yes, definitely. Our movers and moving trucks are fully insured and WSIB-protected. When you’re moving a few towns over or cross-provincially, everything is covered, and you’re in good hands.
