Short-term storage between closings
The most common reason people need storage during a move is a gap between the closing dates on
two properties. You have to be out of one home before you can get into the next, and the belongings
have to go somewhere in between. Short-term storage covers that gap without a second move: the crew
loads once, holds the goods, and delivers to the new address when you have keys.
Long-term storage
Longer storage suits renovations, a move abroad, downsizing before you have decided what to keep,
or a delayed international arrival. The difference from short-term is mostly in how items are
prepared, because anything sitting for months needs wrapping that will not mark or compress the
finish it is protecting.
How your belongings are handled
Items are inventoried as they are loaded, so there is a record of what went in. Furniture is
wrapped and padded rather than stacked bare, mattresses go into covers, and anything fragile is
boxed rather than loose. Because the same team handles the pack, the storage and the delivery, there
is no extra handling step where damage usually happens.
What not to put into storage
Some things should stay with you or should not be stored at all. Do not store cash, jewellery,
passports or irreplaceable documents. Do not store perishable food, plants or anything that can leak
or attract pests. Flammable and pressurised items such as propane tanks, gasoline, paint thinner and
aerosols are not accepted. If you are unsure about a specific item, ask before moving day rather
than on it.
Storage in transit on a long-distance move
If your delivery date is later than your pickup date on a cross-province move, storage in transit
holds the shipment between the two. It is the same principle as a delayed closing, just over a
